DEVO's Officers 2016/2017

Rebecca Jain - President

Rebecca Jain is a 3rd year undergraduate student and Bay Area native. Her interest in wine and viticulture beginning in high school when her family bought a home on Spring Mountain in Sonoma County. After meeting the local vintners and winemakers, she was hooked! Rebecca started getting involved with DEVO in the spring of her freshman year, and served as the undergraduate representative during her sophomore year. She knows the importance of friendships and professional connections made as students in the V&E program, so she hopes to make DEVO accessible to students of all experience levels as president. Outside of class and the DEVO room, she enjoys cooking and tending to her many plants.

Andrea is a fourth year undergraduate student in the Viticulture & Enology program. Growing up in the Napa Valley surrounded by amazing food & wine, gave her a greater appreciation for the industry and an idea of what she wants to do after college. Andrea has been involved in DEVO all four years and is the Secretary for this year. She has worked two harvests, one in Napa and the other in Davis. When she isn’t running around the Robert Mondavi Institute, she can be found hiking, baking, taking a much-needed nap, or enjoying a glass of Pinot.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mara Couch - 190X Organizer

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mara is a second year M.S. candidate in Viticulture and Enology. She graduated from UC Davis in 2013 with a major in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and minor in French. During her senior year at UCD, Mara grappled with how to apply her passion for science in the professional world. Fortunately, her honors project with the Department of Viticulture and Enology revealed the possibility of working harvest in California and beyond. For Mara, wine production turned out to be a gratifying combination of science, creativity, and physicality; since 2013, she has worked vintage in Napa, Australia, and France. Now, she is thrilled to be back at UCD studying V&E at the graduate level. This year, Mara looks forward to contributing to the Pinot Project, working at the the UCD research winery, and serving as a DEVO officer.

 

 

 

Alicia Hoepfner - 190X Organizer

Alicia is from Las Vegas, Nevada and a second year V&E graduate student. She graduated from Santa Clara University with degrees in Biology and Economics. While in undergrad she studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, which caused her to fall further in love with science, wine, and travel. In the years following undergrad, she worked for an organ procurement organization and realized life is too short to not follow your passion. In search of combining her love for wine, science, art, innovation, and business she stumbled upon the masters program at UC Davis and has never looked back.

Renee Berkus is a third year undergraduate student from Santa Barbara, California. Her upbringing in a town full of food and wine combined with her five years of restaurant work experience has influenced her interest in the industry.  She has worked one harvest back home in the Santa Rita Hills and greatly looks forward to traveling abroad to work many more after she graduates.  As a twenty year-old herself, she is looking to create opportunities for other underage students to become more involved in DEVO.  She is thrilled about her role in expanding the club to include a wider range of students this year and to get more immersed in her V&E studies here at Davis.
