What We Do
DEVO is the student organization of the Department of Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis. It was created to promote contact between students, the wine industry, and the community. We plan immersion trips to different viticultural areas in California, give scholarships for international internships, as well as sponsor group excursions to study the wine regions of the world. To make all of this happen we raise money through events such as rare wine raffles, the Dinner Under the Winkler Vine, tours of the department, and educational tastings for casual and professional groups.
Immersion Trip- Fall 2011
The fall immersion trip was a huge success as DEVO traveled to Anderson Valley. We explored great wineries, met with the Winemakers and owners and learned a lot about Anderson Valley wines! This group shot was taken at Toulouse Vineyards where Vern Boltz spent time with us discussing vineyard practices and winemaking techniques. He and his wife then lead us through a tasting of their wines followed by a walk through the vineyard.

We woke up to this beautiful view in Fort Bragg...
Husband and wife owned and operated Yorkville cellars was our first stop. We were able to check out the scenery as we wandered through the vineyard with Deborah Wallo. Edward was waiting for us inside with all of their wonderful Anderson Valley Bordeaux varietals for us to taste.

The wine and experience at Yorkville was enjoyed all around.
Breggo Cellars was next on this list where we were treated to a behind the scenes view of the crush pit and a private tasting with the Winemaker, Ryan Hodgins, a UC-Davis Alum in the Barrel room. Breggo Cellars is where our very own Shaunt Oungoulian was Enologist before entering the Master's program.

Thanks to Michael and several other helpful hands we were all treated to an amazing dinner!
